About MuniWatch

Making Utah's public governance accessible, searchable, and actionable for every citizen.

Our Mission

MuniWatch serves as Utah's comprehensive digital platform for accessing public meeting information from every municipality and public body in the state. We believe that civic transparency shouldn't require visiting dozens of different websites or navigating complex government portals.

Our platform aggregates, indexes, and makes accessible the complete record of public governance activities, from city council meetings to planning commission hearings, ensuring that every Utah resident can stay informed about the decisions that shape their communities.

Data Sources & Methodology

MuniWatch aggregates publicly available information from the Utah Public Meeting Notices (PMN) system and individual municipal websites. Our data collection process includes:

  • Utah PMN System: We pull entity and meeting information from the official Utah Public Meeting Notices catalog.
  • Municipal Websites: Additional meeting details, agendas, and transcripts are collected from individual municipal websites.
  • Regular Updates: Our systems check for new meetings and updates multiple times daily.

All information presented on MuniWatch is sourced from official public records. Except for automated summaries or where otherwise expressly noted, we do not alter or editorialize any meeting content.

Legal Framework

MuniWatch supports compliance with the Utah Open and Public Meetings Act (Utah Code 52-4). This law requires:

  • 24-hour minimum public notice for meetings
  • Agendas to be posted with notices
  • Meetings to be open to the public
  • Written minutes for all meetings

MuniWatch is an independent platform and does not replace official municipal record-keeping. We serve as a convenience layer to improve public access to information already required to be public.
